New Construction

Before you start on a new construction project, there are steps you must take to ensure your building can be successfully connected to our water and sewer system.

Before Plan Submittal

  • Set up a pre-planning meeting with Columbus City Utilities.

  • Reach out to the Columbus Planning Department for submittal requirements.

  • CCU reviews plans as part of the Planning Department process, but early coordination makes the process smoother.

Before Construction

  • Hold a pre-construction conference with CCU before construction starts on site.
  • Provide estimated sewer and water tap dates.
  • Provide estimated date a water meter will be needed.
  • Provide final construction drawings.

during Construction

  • Contact CCU at least 24 hours before sewer tap inspection is needed. We must observe the tap before the trench is backfilled.
  • Contact CCU for a water tap.
  • Contact CCU for a water meter. To avoid delays in releasing the water meter, note the following requirements:

    • Provide meter vault shop drawing
    • Provide payment
    • Vault has been inspected by CCU
    • Backflow devices must be installed and tested
  • Contact CCU for temporary hydrant meter needs.
