COLUMBUS, INDIANA – Columbus City Utilities recently completed renovations to its lobby and business office that has kept the lobby closed to customers since September 2022. Customers may now walk into the building for face-to-face service or continue to use the drive-thru, phone, or online services.
The renovation project included security upgrades, the addition of a public restroom in the lobby, improvements to the handicap parking spaces, and upgraded furniture and carpet in the business office. The main security upgrade included improving access control to secure employee-only areas. The public restroom, parking spaces, and adjacent sidewalks are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The project was designed by Strand Associates, Inc. and constructed by Dunlap & Company, who originally built the building in 1987. Construction took place from September 2022 to February 2023, and the drive-thru remained open during the entire construction duration.
CCU staff would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding during this renovation project.
On April 20, we celebrated the reopening of the lobby with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony. Executive Director, Roger Kelso spoke about the renovation project and Mayor Lienhoop was on hand to cut the ribbon.
