Be Aware! Hidden leaks can run up your water bill!
Having a water leak in your home, a constantly running toilet, or a faucet that will not stop dripping may not seem like a big deal, but they can result in you paying for a lot of water you didn’t even use.
Keep an eye on your usage.
Every Columbus City Utilities water bill includes a snapshot of your usage. Increases could be caused by houseguests, or by using more water during the summer. But usage can also let you know if leaks have resulted in a higher than average bill. If you had unusually high bills due to a leak, we can work with you to request a payment agreement.
Check your faucets.
For many homeowners, the source of a water leak stems from the faucets. A worn rubber washer is often the culprit and can be found underneath the handle. You can easily replace the washer if you have the correct tools. Most home improvement or hardware stores sell replacement gaskets and the tools you need to fix this simple, common problem.
Check your toilet.
If you have to jiggle the handle, chances are it might be using water. There are parts inside that need to be replaced from time to time. Issues in the tank are often inexpensive to fix and can be done yourself. If you do have that as a problem and cannot determine how to repair, please contact our staff at 812-372-8861 and we will be happy to assist you with recommendations.
Don’t ignore those sneaky leaks. We know plumbing repairs can be high, but please note that Columbus City Utilities is not responsible for leaks inside your home. Please act fast by fixing it or calling a licensed, registered plumber!
