The Monthly Fire Protection Charge

With the changes by the Indiana General Assembly and state government related to property taxes, the City of Columbus must cut costs, eliminate certain services and/or replace lost revenues with new user fees. On October 21, 2008, the City Council passed a fire protection fee to replace the public fire hydrant rental charge previously paid to the water utility through your property taxes. The fee is based upon the size of your domestic use water meter according to the following table. Information about your meter size is included on your monthly bill. Please note that water accounts established solely for lawn irrigation are not charged.
